This isn't our house, but it was left unfinished when we bought our property. Finished staining it today, so the outside it ready for winter. The interior finishing touches will be done over the winter...gotta love projects!

Nice little cabin! So you must have a decent chunk of property if thats just a spare building. How big is the property? (jealous)

Only an acre. The cabin is about 150 feet from our back porch. I think it will come in handy as a "get away" as our little one gets older! ha!

PIC HEAVY POST! PLEASE DON'T QUOTE WHOLE POST WITH PICS!

Been a long, busy week!

After spending the whole week working on it in the afternoons, and then putting in three 12-hr sun-up to sun-down days in 86 deg sun and sweat and 2 days of rain Fri, Sat and today, I have completed Phase 1 of Operation Reclaim the Back End of My Yard. Big thanks to @TravZilla and @NWX who both helped out for a day in this monster job.

Phase 1: Clear the ground, remove all the brush and ground ivy, tear down and remove the decrepit broken 45-year old ivy covered fence and build a new 6' cedar privacy fence across the 64' back property line. Complete

Phase 2: Remove all the ivy from the trees, spray area with veg kill and lay down weed matting, install edging between grass lawn and back area, cover with probably 20 yds of bark chips. (...to be completed)

Giving the Hi-Lift some exercise:

Getting serious with huge, heavy, massive, 2-man auger:

Even with the big 160cc auger, we still had to keep stopping and taking a sawzall to so many roots. These werent little baby roots. These were roots as thick as arms and legs. Here's one with a Gatorade bottle for scale. What a massive PITA and time suck!:

But we dug out nice deep 30" holes (4" gravel, 24" concrete, 2" dirt on top):

Framed out:

Well done Surf, I loath projects like that. It took my wife and I 3 years to finally kill off the Ivy that was growing in our yard when we moved in.

I usually mulch up the leaves on a nice dry day, but that isn't going to happen this year. After a day of rain yesterday and a little break this morning I got it done in a nick of time.
