Default XO Roof Rack, Whatcha Think?

This is a prototype roof rack I just finished building. I have since figured out a way to build the same rack but without having to drill the 4 holes to mount it inside the existing factory rack. I have also devised a way to build it so that it can be shipped standard UPS and not having to pay freight charges. The finished rack only weighs 46 pounds finished as pictured. The way I designed the rack allows the user to easily swap out the accessory bars on top using a convenient pin system, allowing quick change outs of equipment depending on your activity for the day. Currently I have a setup for snowboarding racks, kayak racks, a light bar and wheelin tools (Jerry Can, Shovel and Ax). Other configurations are possible since the setup is a straight bar to bolt accessories onto. The rear gate of the rack is also removable and can drop into any one of the other bar mounting locations to "section off" the basket into smaller compartments. The rack also has flood lights on both sides and the back of the basket. Both front and back lights are wired with a quick disconnect plug for easy removal. I also designed it to sit at the same level as the front additional Tule air deflector so it is very aerodynamic. The bonus is that it is sturdy as a rock and since its completely flat on top you can haul large heavy items like full sheets of lumber or steel without complications. I am considering making and selling these racks if the response is positive and I get at least 4 committed buyers. Please post comments and questions and suggestions and I will try to stay on top of the posts. Thanks in advance!

You definitely did your homework and planning on that one. Good job. Personally, I'm looking to replace the rack entirely, but you've put together something that should be bloody useful.

Truly, It IS a nice looking rack. But ..........

at the end of the day it is still mounted to the Nissan bars with plastic feet.

Pricing would have to be under existing add-on rack prices (thule,yakima,dephep...etc) because if it gets too pricey then customers may want to look at the Gobi or Baja racks. Total weight limit for the Nissan bars is 150 lbs I believe , so 46lbs of rack weight leaves 104 lbs of gear weight. Just my .02

maybe have an "add on option" that would replace the factory bars if people were looking to hold more weight.

wow, looks great, a little tall for my taste, but very very useful and I love the fact that you have already figured an easy way to add to/modify it...nice job
