Thumbs up Kenwood DDX512 is a GO!

Got this installed yesterday and finished up the add-ons (Sirius, Bluetooth) today. I rigged the video bypass by grounding and running it through a switch I put next to my VDC selector. This way, I flip it on and I can watch video while moving and flip it off if need to switch it back to view video only when parked (in case the fuzz decides to take a look!). This system is a little confusing at first just because of all of the functions it is capable of doing but I am quite pleased so far.

This will make my drives to VA and UT in the coming weeks nad months go much more fast and less boring, fo sho. Also threw in the iPod adapter so now I can plug in my iPhone 3G and have total access to all of my music, videos, and even podcasts and pictures. It will even play video podcats! It also has an input for a rear view camera if I want to add to it later, which I think I will once I get my new rear multi-carrier bumper (which is shipping next week, BTW). The one thing I REALLY like about this system is the USB option, I just plugged in my pocket portable HD and BAM! 400G of music, movies, and TV shows! Bye bye, DVD's!!!

And I mounted the mic for the Bluetooth right on the ledge of my instrument panel and ran the wire down behind the steering wheel and then up into the back of the receiver through the paneling.

Hey TXerra,
I'm deciding between the DDX512 or the DDX612. I was leaning towards the DDX512. Does the DDX512 screen tilt? or is it fixed? If it is fixed, is the angle of the video ideal from the front passenger seats? thanx for any comments.

The screen is fixed, no tilting that I am aware of. The angle is fine as far as driver's seat viewing, IMO. I am 5'11" and have a great view of the screen w/ zero glare or angle issues.

Chase and Oz this unit looks great, and appears to do everything but cook your dinner...so how much is it and where to buy?

These were originally $1100 retail - I bought mine on Ebay for $599 (new) w free shipping. I was looking at a refurbished unit for $488 + $25 dollars shipping so for $86 dollars more I opted for the new one. I had the luxury of trying this unit out for about a year as its on (2) of our work trucks. We have a Pioneer on one of the other trucks and the Stratis navigation SUCKS compared to the Garmim.

I got mine on sale at Best Buy for $499. And as far as a splash screen Oz, I'm not sure I know exactly what that is. Like a screen saver or something?
