Thumbs up FireStik Firefly installed on front Shrock bumper

So I FINALLY accomplished my CB antenna dilemma! Picked up the 4' FireStik Firefly off road antenna, quick-disconnect, and horizontal mounting bracket. Drilled a hole in the bumper (not easy drilling through solid steel!) with my sweet new Makita 18V li-ion cordless drill, and now just waiting to have it tuned (hopefully tomorrow) before I wire it up. It is damn-near flush w/ the bumper, pretty clean install if I say so myself! And this also gives me a guideline as to my height, no more running into car wash equipment and knocking my rack off!

The only issues I see with that are.

It sticks so any brush against a tree, rock or dirt (if you are in a rut) will rip it off.

The connector is exposed.

Yeah, I had a hard time figuring out where exactly on the bumper I wanted to put/where it would fit. I was originally thinking to put it so that the pug-in would be behind the far back corner of the bumper, basically facing to the inside of the wheel well. But then I thought it might rub under full stuffage. I was wanting to see how/where you had yours, Jason, but your site was always down and I couldn't get a good look at your install spot!

Oh, and I am trying to come up w/ something (cable skid?!) to put around and cover the connector to avoid damage.

I never had any pics of the antenna install.

Basically, mine is on the passenger side and the hole is right about where the steel logo is on your mounting bracket.

yeah...can't you just drill a 1/2" hole and use the bumper as a mounting bracket? no official bracket needed....

Ahaa, I see. What did you use to mount it? I don't see a mounting tab or anything.

The bumper.

I just drilled a hole in the bumper, stuck the stud mount through and tightened it up.

I did have to isolate the stud mount with a piece of shrink tube since the bumper is thicker than a normal mount.

The reason I mounted it to the passenger side is for two reasons.

1. I don't look right into it when driving.
2. I use it to judge the right corner. If the antenna is going to get past the obstacle, the bumper will too. (It's easier to judge the drivers side.)

...and you won't hit the awning of a drive thru fast food place when it's on your passenger side.
