Thumbs up Mad Maxx Roof Rack - Done!

Like some of you already know, my little brother is a welder/fabricator boy wonder back home in Midlothian/Richmond, VA. He said he would be willing to produce some roof racks, just like the new Gobi ones, for next to nothing. All he needs is for us to provide the tube die size he needs (1" I believe) and then, of course, the tube and materials. I am willing to go in on the die with anyone who would be interested, he said it shouldn't be more than $100/$200, and then the tubing. So, who's game?!

--EDIT 2/10/09--

In hopes to clean up this thread a bit, I reorganized the posts a little bit here on the first page.

Progression and details of the Mad Maxx roof rack...
- 1" die, 1" tubing
- "Xterra" cut out bracket made custom by Dan (Matrix12480)

And here's a video clip to see it from all angles:

--EDIT 2/28/09--

Just got it back from the shop (extra tube supports, mesh flooring welded on and powdercoated). And wow, it looks amazing! I put the lights on just for looks for now, will wire them up later.

UPDATE 5/4/09

New pics of recent light change-up. 100W KC SlimLites up front; fog, driving, driving, fog.

Hella Optilux 1200 55W fogs on the rear.

UPDATE

Now that I am in VA and with my brother, he said he can just simply use mine as a template and whip a couple racks out. So, who is SERIOUSLY interested in buying one? Going price would most likely be ~$500 (would be in bare steel, you paint, powdercoat, or whatever finish) Local pickup would be preferred, but we can see about doing some freight shipping or something.

Tempting, very tempting.

About how much should the tubing cost?

We're looking at $155 + shipping for the 1" tube die.

I'd be in for sure! After seeing one of course, have him make one for you like KillJoy suggested. For that price I bet half the people here would be in.

Shipping is what is going to kill the overall price. Something that large is going to cost a small fortune to ship anywhere.

OK.
I told Chase that he should E-mail Gobi and see if he can purchase mounting brackets. I COULD make them but it would be nice to have them already made for me. Its 205 plus shipping for the 1" die. I will wait 'till I have his Xterra here to make it. His will be for free because he gets the brother discount, lol. I have made sliders for people and charged them material plus 100 for labor. These racks might be a bit more labor intensive but it would not be more than 200 for labor. Once Chase's rack is made and both he and I are satisfied with the outcome. Then we can all talk about the cost for me making them. Shipping WOULD be a huge whore because of the size, but I could just shrink wrap it and throw it on a freight, might be up to 100-150 depending on the carrier.
Think of shipping like this...it cost 270 bucks for me to have a 500lbs. Dana 60 axle shipped to me from Pennsylvania. I am sure a >100lbs. rack wouldnt be near that
