I recently switched to synthetic motor oil for my X (Pennzoil Platinum).

The three tanks prior to the change-over (with almost all in-town driving) were:
14.4
14.6
14.1
AVERAGE 14.4

The three tanks following the switch (same kind of driving):
15.6
16.1
15.7
AVERAGE 15.8 (exactly a 10% increase)

I've always used synthetics in my cars because I like the longer interval and I feel it's better for the engine. However, this is the first vehicle where I've seen a noticeable MPG increase. I will continue to track these results.

EDIT: before anyone asks, these are actual calculations based on miles driven and gallons added.

I have been experience a bad vibration when stopped or just sitting in park. The other day my RPMs and oil pressure dropped so low that my truck almost stalled out. I have done the relearn procedure, cleaned MAF and Throttle Body and still nothing. I am thinking it could be the oil pump, but before I do this I wanted to see if anyone had experienced this.

Note: I have searched for issues with oil pressure, but noone stating anything this severe.

anyone have any issues with theirs? i read that the 06 and 08 xterra had a recall on them.

the reason for my asking is my X last year thru the check engine light on etc but would only come on when the gas gauge would act up. the gas gauge once it got to half a tank drops to E and the check engine light comes on. well now it stays on and the gas gauge has a mind of its own now. we went to the dealer last year when the issue happened and of course the truck was just out of warranty so it was going to cost like 600-800 bucks to fix. well i came across the recall and figured i call headquarters up to see if the truck qualified for it since the production date was 10/06 even though it is an 07. all in all the lady said the vin is what they go off for recalls and our vin didnt come up so i have to go to a nissan dealer to get a diagnostic test done to see what the issue is which im 90 percent sure it is the fuel leveling/sending unit but headquarters needs an official report from a nissan dealer to consider the truck as past of the recall.

so i figured i rant and see if any other X owners have the same issue or anything similar

:drink:

Last night my rig was running awful like running bad gas. When I gave it throttle I heard a squeak and a rattle. This morning when I started it the fan pulley shot off the block, destroying the fan, electric fan and smashed up the radiator fins pretty good.

So I think I need this: http://www.courtesyparts.com/21052m-...0-p-11886.html

The pulley is fine but the bearing on the shaft plate with threads for the fan clutch bolts looks shot so I think this is what failed. From the photos it looks as this shaft plate comes with the bracket.

Has this happened to anyone? Is there something else I should look into replacing besides this and the destroyed fans? Thanks.

Jeff

Yet another custom Magnaflow install (Pic Heavy)

After reading many fine posts about removing the infamous Y-pipe, bolt-on catback systems, and the various ways to pipe in an aftermarket muffler, I ended up going with what seems to be a fairly common Magnaflow 12268 install - two in 1 out with custom piping.

If you've been thinking about doing this, stop thinking and just do it! It's AWESOME!

I've got a Volant that I installed a few weeks back, and the Magnaflow blends in perfectly! Hard to describe...think of having the awesome sound you get from the Volant coming from under the hood AND from back of the truck.

Here are some pics. I ended up paying a bit more than I should have (relative what others have admitted to paying) for the install, but after visiting several different places, I went with a custom exhaust shop that seemed generally interested in working with me (actually walked outside with me an looked under the truck and talked through everything before I even made an appointment), as opposed to acting annoyed that I would dare want to bring them my business.

Anyway, I digress - here are some pics:

I asked them to tuck things up nice and tight and they didn't disappoint.
I'm not too savvy with the video/audio thing, but I'll give it a try one day soon.

Ok I just bought a new Xterra Off Road and I just hit 300 miles. Well I was driving in some traffic today (only in traffic for a few min.) and I noticed the when I took my foot off the gas pedal the RPMs would drop to about 500 and the oil pressure would drop to almost all the way. Then both would jump right back up. I played with it a little and it seems it only does it around 40 mph or lower. The only mods I have done is a cold air intake (NISMO) and a Optima yellow top battery so far. Does anyone have have any ideas? Or if this is normal thing? I just traded in my 05 S model for the new one and I never had this issue.

Ok sorry, it has to be from the transfer case but the wet spot starts right where the O2 sensor is.

The shat is not wet but it seems to come from on top. There is not a huge mess so I checked the breather tubes and both are connected properly. I checked the level and I couldn't feel any fluid so it must be low.

Would this still be the seal? check the pictures and see what you think.

Around the shaft is dry

There is more fluid between the bottom of the truck and the heat shield than anything else.

and the "wet spot" moves forward on the truck instead of toward the rear like most leaks. All the way up to the O2 sensor.

But anyway, Do you think this would be the seal????

Thanks,

I have an 2006 S 4x4 AT with 49k miles.

For the last couple of months the acceleration has seemed a little sluggish. I accelerate just fine to about 40mph, then it seems that the power just drops off, and I need to hit the gas harder.

I recently had the IPDM replaced, but I think this problem predates that.

I cleaned by MAF sensor last night to no effect.

The transmission was recently flushed, and there was no indication of coolant mixing. The transmission fluid currently looks like it's supposed to look, so I have no evidence that the transmission is bad.

Any ideas?
