Has anyone in here seen or used this before?

Logic tells me that since I weigh 165lbs, plus the weight of the contraption, it's just asking for trouble... aside from the fact that you'd have to be a midget to use it...

I think the roof will take much more weight than they say it does, I know I have had double the capacity and went like 750+ miles that way no problems.

In some parts, being up on top like that is not a bad idea. My wife was just camping in WV and there were signs all over the camp ground about Rattle snakes sleeping with campers. And critters come much larger than that.

Not a bad idea, as long as jumping jacks is not part of your sleeping habits, or sleep walking.

There are a few more models other than that.

I have been on the roof of the xterra. I weigh 300 Lbs. It held me.

The load rating that Nissan give you is for the cross bars. The actual rack will hold much more weight. You also have to remember that any weight in that tent is distributed across the entire rack so I think you would be in good shape.

I can see see me falling out of it when I have to take a leak at 3am. :)

I had one on my suburban, its called a Lofty Shelter, works great unless you have to wiz in the middle of the night. My girlfriend and i both were comfortable in it. I like that little jumping jack trailer. Neat idea but the price i saw was a little steep ill stick to my tent for now. I usually just blow up a full size air mattress and it fits excellant in the back of the X.

Yeah, I think that thing would be great, except the price tag is out of my budget. I bet it's roomy on the inside though with just two of you in there.

In some places that have large critters, that is smart thing to do. We have bears where I go, and I hear they will enter a tent just for the scent of food on a toothbrush, I'd rather not chance it. I tried to fight a Raccoon over a bag of marshmallows 1/2 asleep once, Raccoon won.... Only because I did not want to wake anyone with a shotgun blast. And that little ass made off with only one of my brand new combat boots!

So, sleep in the X, gear in the tent a good thing. MC

Well, given different situations and especially animals that can rip right through your tent (its happened to me) that sleeping quarter may be worth it to certain types of camping. You know what they say...

My wife's parents have been using one of the same as sold by Lofty shelters - they are made in Italy under the name of Maggiolina.

They run from England to Turkey twice per year, using the thing every night. Even been used on the Adriatic ferry at sea.

They swear by the thing.
