: Review: Am I Crazy? My X Drives Better with Skids
woodfish65 05-23-2011, 11:19 PM I finally installed my new set of NxRocks skids, I bought one of the last sets of skids Remi made. First of all, Remi is one heck of a craftsman, they fit great with only very minor adjustments. They look cool, too bad I can't drive upside down!
Here is the wierd part, my 06 S drives better with them on. I don't know whether it is the lower center of gavity or the fact that the entire frame is stiffer from the skids crossbracing everything. Anyway, it feels much smoother on the highway and corners better, I love it.
Has anyone else experienced the same thing? The extra protection of the skids was worth the price, the better handling is an added bonus.
Maybe I am just crazy.
Thanks Remi, I would do business with you anytime!
Surf and Snow 05-24-2011, 12:36 AM I noticed the same. The lowered COG is my guess.
xterrapin 05-24-2011, 08:05 AM Both changes, lower COG and increased chassis stiffness, are two of the most important factors in improving a vehicle's handling...
Loki512 05-24-2011, 08:44 AM yup, noticed too. i thought it might also be more tension on the shocks making them a bit more responsive, but your ideas make sense too
Yellow07s 05-24-2011, 08:48 AM I was just thinking the same thing too.....I put the last of my skids and sliders on and thought to myself wow this rides better for some reason.
MTBXjunkie 05-24-2011, 09:27 AM great now i have to spend more money on the X on stuff i dont really NEED... Thanks.... jus Thanks
LIXterra 05-24-2011, 09:44 AM i only ordered the shrock engine skid and t case skid now i definitely have to go back and order the rest
LSxFBODYgen3 05-24-2011, 10:24 AM ...and I just got done convicing myself I would wait till after a lift to put on sliders and skids. ERRRR all these mods are killing my wallet.
FaroutX 05-24-2011, 11:17 AM I also noticed the improved performance after installing skids, NxRocks skids are awesome, great piece of mind to have on the trail!

woodfish65 05-24-2011, 08:36 PM Thanks for the input, now that I have the skids on, it is time to head for the hills. The fish are biting at the delany butte lakes near Walden colorado. If you see a black S with an orange bonefish sticker on the back, thats me, stop and say hello.
LSxFBODYgen3 05-24-2011, 08:54 PM If I see a Black S with an orange bonefish sticker on the back I will call 911 cause im all the way in NY;)

tomrejzek 12-05-2012, 11:36 PM I put my skids on two months ago and the first thing i noticed was how much more the stable the car felt, too.
santims 12-06-2012, 09:16 AM Funny...i was going to create a thread about this today....glad it was brought up.
I was on the phone with Rook one day seeking advice and he mentioned that it would feel the difference. Stiffens frame and lowers COG.
One thing that I have noticed though is that I do get a bit of nose dive on exit ramps (2"BL & 2"SL). I have rad and engine skid mounted. I need to get on the transmission and T-Case soon to hopefully distribute some more weight to the rear of the truck....or at least I hope that is what will fix this a bit.

drzsimon 12-12-2012, 04:06 PM Heh mine gave me an extra 20% hp lol. The skids make a big diff in rigidness.
ShiftingSkys 01-30-2013, 10:38 PM Lol. I will most likely be purchasing some skids when I get the money. It does make sense that it would enhance how it feels.
