: Universal Lock
usmc xterra 08-22-2006, 05:00 AM I added this to my Rear bumper install, but show you here because it's such a cool mod that can be used to secure about anything you can drill a hole in. Look at the adjustment in length! For $7 you can't beat it. Stainless Steel, free spinning, easy to unlock and bulletproof! Can also be used to lock tire rack. Roof racks down, Winches to bumpers, you use your imagination! I'd like 5 keyed alike! Hello Masterlock!
And here is my special low buck Shrockworks tire rack tire lock.
Problem was, No 5 lock set available from McGuard. So I keep what I have.
Then I get an idea, I saw a trailer coupler lock at Wal Mart for like $7.

I drill a hole in one of the spare blanks the size of the lock pin. Paint it and put the lock through.
As you can see here, much better than a wheel lock, you can't grab this, and it only will spin, not turn off.

Here is the back side as locked. Once you put the rubber washers on, it's tight, and it's well protected from weather by
the wheel, and there is no way anyone is going to want to fight it with the tire rack locked closed. I think i have got something here!
Can be used for other things I am sure! Now I'm all LOCKED and all SHROCKED!

usmc xterra 08-23-2006, 07:31 PM Yea Dan, In Cleveland they can steal the tires off your car at a short red light!
Paranoid is not true, we park in a lot that has 550 drivers coming in and out all day 24 7. Now, who is to notice when someone other than a driver is there? We've had Stereos missing, snow plows taken right off the trucks, seats, CB's Wheels, spare tires, smash and grabs, all that.
I just talked to a guy yesterday, they got his brand new stereo and two packs of Marlboros. Imagine that.
It's just a real risk in Cleveland. I seriously am afraid that they may dismount the tire and just take that! Seriously!
Last guy got a set of tires taken, he had locks, they put milk crates under the truck, and let the air out of the tires. Smashed the window, found the key and took all 4 wheels. All while 550 drivers came and went.
Lock it up and booby trap it with fish hook cluster packs!
Hey I worked for em, they have to also.
MC
BGXterra 08-23-2006, 07:45 PM that is really bad. That wouldexplain your dedication to security
Glucola 08-23-2006, 08:06 PM Damn.
usmc xterra 08-23-2006, 08:12 PM But I don't have a garbage service, I just pack it up and seal it in boxes I got stuff in and leave it sit in the back of someone's PU truck. They think it's what the box says and swipe it. At X mas time I wrap em! Gone in an hour or so.
I have the boxes the wheels came in about full.

RogueClimber 08-23-2006, 10:43 PM MC you Kill me!
js479 08-23-2006, 11:00 PM Way to stike back at the slime, MC!
I wish it were legal to booby trap the X.
Make it so if any of the windows were busted out it would send about 1,000,000 volts through car. Yeah, I think that's fair. :evil2:

In some countries that is legal
usmc xterra 08-24-2006, 02:25 AM Yea, smash and grab's are big now a days everywhere. If all you have is factory alarm and you have something sitting out they want and can see. You are on your way to being next.
Get a aftermarket alarm and use it. My Wal Mart Talking Alarm catches more people than my more expensive alarm. The talking alarm goes off with a warning. "You are too close to the vehicle, please step away" just when they get close. And that's what I think you need. $50 Easy install. I put the LED on the front left speaker grille on the dash. Easy.

All kidding aside, I have to worry about theft as well and reading about MC's mods are very helpful.
