Where is it? Do I need to be modded (other than aesthetics) to run it? If it is not too far away, I will take the day off to go!

The trail basically runs from just west of Idaho Springs to Central City/Black Hawk. A decent set of tires would help, but that's about it for mods.

What direction do you guys want to run?

Hoiw's a 9:30am start work?

Creek

we should run it from Alice over to Rollinsville - Kingston Peak>Apex>Russell Gulch>Gamble Gulch that will dump us on 119 just south of Rollinsville

9:30 works for me - figure the parking area at the bottom of Exit 238 off I-70 (Fall River Rd)

Since I am military, I have to clear it with my boss, then take the leave... as long as they don't have any quams with it, I am in. I have some P.O.S. AT Dunlops on it for now, only got 7K miles on them

The Red X
08-11-2009, 12:32 AM
oh, and can someone give me at least a zip code for exit 138 so I can find it on Mapquest to figure out what time in the A.M. I need to leave?

kneebuster

It's exit 238 just west of Idaho Springs.

I love google maps on my iPhone for directions... And i found out this weekend that motion-xgps is a GREAT gps for the iPhone too! It supports map cacheing... So as long as I know where I am going, I just look at it with the gps app and it caches the maps (tiles) to work in conjunction with the gps.

So, mapquest says about an hour, I can totally do that!

It's cool to bring the pup right?

yeah, pups are cool...i'll have my 2. and dude...please, please, please, don't rely on your iphone for gps. it's fine and dandy in the city/suburbs, but what about when you don't have cell reception?

And I'll have my daughter, who loves playing with new dogs.

It has a seperate GPS that does not rely on cellular network for position... but it does require wi-fi or 3G or Edge to retrieve maps... HOWEVER, it has map caching, so as long as I know where I am headed, the night before I go through the route, and it caches the "tiles". I did it for the weekend trip, and it was awesome, except I was about 10 miles off on the caching :dontknow:

I do need to get a stand-alone GPS, but that is not in the cards right now, I may wait for an impossible deal just before xmas.

No need for a GPS, Creek, Kneebuster and I have run this trail before. You'll be fine without.

Oh, I've run this trail a handful of times myself. The GPS suggestion was just in general.

So are there plenty of Photo Ops on this trail?

Sorry I forgot a comma...

Yep, lots, we'll be above treeline a good chunk of the time just east of the continental divide.

Well, if you are interested, I also used my Flip Flash video recorder to record some video... being that it was only my second time out on the trails, and the first one doesn't really count (the sand dunes) I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but it turned out okay, as long as you don't get motion sickness! :puke:

Unfortunately with the 6spd when I had to concentrate on not stalling her, the camera dipped below the dash.. sorry!

Anyway, if ya want to look here is the link...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7b-JS5x32g

Creek is the first rig, then CG, then me (stock) and behind me was Kneebuster.

It was a great time for me! I am definitely going to save up for some sliders and skids (after the grille gets replaced!)

Nice enough (I'll admit to skipping around a bit :geek:) ... I can't imagine trying to juggle my MT and video at the same time. XJ-TERRA did a video mount instal a couple of weeks ago; you should check it out, if you're serious about doing more in-cab video work. But for the odd video here and there, the way you did it (or a passenger) sure works out okay.

Hah, looks like my video; when I tried holding the camera and shifting with one hand.
I like the pic of all four trucks.

Man, your b/w pictures are sweet ... did I read in one of your threads that you use an infrared CCD on those? I also really liked the second one, the colors really seem to pop.

Thanks. Yes, one of the cameras had the IR filter removed from the CCD so it now captured primarily IR with some color.

I'm off for a week in the Pagosa Springs, Ouray, Ridgeway region and hope to come back with some good shots, and do some wheeling of course.
