: August 2009 TOTM Entries
XterraPA 08-01-2009, 01:09 PM August 2009 TOTM Entries
Remember, if you won in 2007 or 2008, you can re-win in 2009. Just please submit a different photo!
Please read the rules before posting.
TOTM Rules:
Truck of the Month (TOTM) will be two parts. Starting the first day of the month, a submission thread will be started and users can start posting their picture. The submission thread will close at midnight of the last day of the month. At this time a voting poll will be created for the users to vote on their favorite picture/truck. The voting will last 7 days, at which time a winner will be announced. If after the closing of the poll there is a tie, there will be a 2 day vote off between the tied submissions. The winner will have his/her photo displayed on the front home page of the site until a new winner is picked.
1. Submit only vehicles you own (or have permission to drive).
2. You may only submit one vehicle a month.
3. Submit just one picture of the vehicle. If more than one photo is submitted, the first one posted will be chosen for voting. If you would like to change the photo you have submitted, please edit your original post.
4. Photos can be of any truck in any setting, but please try and make the photo interesting. If it's a driveway shot, shoot from an interesting angle. You should be able to tell what the vehicle is in the photo, but the entire vehicle does not need to be in the photo.
5. Please give the following details about your vehicle;
...a. Make
...b. Model
...c. Year
...d. Color
...e. Mod List
6. Please do not post any photos unless it is an entry in the contest.
7. Please keep the chit-chat down. If you would like to discuss someones truck, please start a new thread in the appropriate forum.
8. Winners may not enter again until the following year.
9. Any photo may be removed from the submission thread by the moderation group for any reason and the admin/mod's have final say. Examples of photos that may be removed;
...a. Photos showing dangerous situation for the driver, by standards or the vehicle it's self.
...b. Photos showing damage to the environment or structures.
.......1. Show vehicles on an obvious trail, clearly hardened surface, or sand.
.......2. Never show vehicles blazing a new trail.
.......3. Avoid use of the word "wilderness" in conjunction with motorized or mechanized vehicles.
.......4. Refrain from showing vehicles in excessive water or mud.
.......5. Avoid excessive speed.
...c. Photos depicting inappropriate activities. Keep the photos PG please!
...d. Any other reason we see fit.
10. Do Not Re-post photos of TOTM entries! Re-posting TOTM entries in the thread only clutters the thread and makes it harder to create the TOTM Polls.
11. Have fun!
At the end of the year we will take all of the winners and put them up against one another to have the Truck Of The Year (TOTY) selected. That winner will get some kind of award and their truck will be placed on the home page.
This contest is open to all trucks from stock to super modified, 2wd and 4wd. So get out there and get those photos. The better the photo the better the chance of you winning. Please do not risk harm or injury to yourself, your vehicle, the environment, etc. If you have a submission that boarders on that, the admin/mod team will determine if it should be allowed for submission.

I know its not much of an action shot, but its a damn nice photo.
I would have better action shots from the first day, but i was actually leading half the group. So id pull up, do the obstacles, and then run back to spot the others through. Bummer.

Old Navy 08-30-2009, 10:44 PM Take it easy now, Creek. Most of my pics are from the 1st time I went offroading in my X and I was all alone. So we do what we must in those cases.. . . . Next time your out by yourself and they want action shots, but it mustn't envolve water, the push your truck off a cliff and take photos of it on the way down.
. . . . . Wait a minute, that won't work, because of the tread lightly clause ~ you known because of the ensuing fire and explosion, which again requires splashing water! :drunken:

Creek 08-31-2009, 02:41 AM My (our - CG and myself) point was - is it picture/scenery of the month? Or Truck Of The Month? I'm not saying that some of the artistic shots presented aren't great. But, c'mon. You're telling me you don't look at some of the pics and ask - "WTF - really?"
Muzikman 08-31-2009, 03:34 AM As long as it falls under the rules, who cares?
All I know is I am glad I don't have to sort though all this crap to post the poll on Tuesday. I don't pay Steve enough.
Old Navy 08-31-2009, 03:47 AM Yep, I guess we all broke Rule No. 7 this time;
7. Please keep the chit-chat down. If you would like to discuss someones truck, please start a new thread in the appropriate forum.
norcalxterra 08-31-2009, 09:18 PM My (our - CG and myself) point was - is it picture/scenery of the month? Or Truck Of The Month? I'm not saying that some of the artistic shots presented aren't great. But, c'mon. You're telling me you don't look at some of the pics and ask - "WTF - really?"
no i dont think i do man. i dont think its very supportive to think that peoples pictures are lame like that. some pics are better than others. some have more action. some have more scenery. thats all part of the variety of totm. and well everyone treads differently. some like to mash and crawl everything which is wicked sick. but some people like to cruise trials and enjoy the outdoors. it doesnt make people feel good when you talk about there pics like that. its not very sportsmen like to me. if you dont like their pics then dont vote for them and dont talk down about their pics. its that simple. i feel like your disrespecting some people here. im sorry if i am getting you all wrong here, but thats the vibe im getting. please dont disrespect peoples pictures by saying that stuff man.
fangars 08-31-2009, 10:00 PM Personally I find it hard to separate the scenery from what brought me there. The liberty gained from owning such a vehicle to go places not so many can is not lost on me as yet, taking that liberty for granted and seeing the Xterra as just a project in the works has not happened yet ether. For me the Xterra is a big part of the adventure and the adventure is why I bought one in the first place. To GTFO of town for a few hours, a few days, a few weeks. I wish I could say months but weeks is already a stretch in my case.
More focus on the truck is probably ideal for what TOTM literally means but at the cost of losing focus of why we bought them in the first place seems to make the truck itself less important.
If we take the literal meaning of the contest as its spelled out do we even need pictures other then as proof of the list of mods that would make it Truck Of The Month? Pehaps we can just send in scanned receipts?
What makes the TOTM the TOTM? The mods? The abilities and actions? The adventures?
Judge how you wish but if there are to be rules on what makes the image TOTM worthy perhaps they should be stated monthly. What I mean to say is something like July is "Splash Through Water" month and August is "Park one Wheel High on a Rock" month and
so on. This will have the effect of either getting people out in their trucks to go meet the criteria of the image or less entries per month because July just is not a good water splashing month for some parts of the world, albeit better then January in other parts.
I do understand the fatigue of what seems like seeing the same image over and over and over even if they actually are individual images, I am a member of flickr and it can get quite tiresome seeing the same old scenes, techniques and gimmicks day in and day out.
In the end all that really matters is do you like any of the images and of those images which do you like most.
This has just been my long winded way of saying just let people post the images they post and let the people vote for the images they vote for.
norcalxterra 08-31-2009, 10:09 PM ^^^ amen

skibum315 08-31-2009, 11:03 PM fangars, that theme idea is pretty good ... maybe for next year? Every month has a different specific theme in addition to the current rules, plus it gives us a few months to get a whole list of 12 themes ahead of time. :dontknow:

I would not be against it.
Looks like my post was doubled.
I am having trouble with this site this evening. Running very slow compared to the rest of the sites I am surfing. I must have assumed the posting failed as nothing seemed to happen and then hit the submit button again.
Next thing you know I will be reposting someones image so I can comment on it.
Sorry about that SeXterraPA.

BakerX05 09-01-2009, 12:23 PM On another forum board I am on, they have bi monthly photo contests. The winner of the contest gets to choose what the next contest theme should be.
I think the TOTM thread should stay the way it is!
Start a new thread if you want to start a themed photo contest.
