The lamest SUV review ever.

That is an excessively boring review by someone that probably drives an escalade everyday...

Anytime I read a review about an SUV and it complains about how it feels truck like on the road I stop reading. The author is obviously not speaking to an audience that I would be in.

Thanks for the post though.

I like the new SE wheels.

On the other hand, I'm not so sure the author was complaining that the ride was truck-like, but merely stating a gauge of how it feels.

This statement just confuses me: "The latest Xterra, which got a major revamping in 2005, seems to have a slightly less agricultural ride than the original version. Maybe I’m becoming more tolerant, though I highly doubt it."

I think the writer got lost on the way to the closest Starbucks. Probably thinks the blue runs at Keystone are 'extreme, too.

booo!! I did a donut in my back yard last night....does that count as off-roading....it might to this guy....i dunno...

poor review....it would take 4 minutes to figure out the Xterra is a relativley capable vehicle and I could tell you it drives more like a truck from one look at the underbody.....tsk tsk...

I'm actually quite partial to the old 4 spoke wheels on the '08 that I have.

I guess this guy's review is great for weeding out the people that shouldn't be driving an X anyway. IMHO the X has a great ride compared to other capable SUVs.

To me those wheels look like snowflakes that a kindergartner would make.

And yes, kind of a lame article.

i had to park on the grass at an event last weekend, i put it in 4 low, thats pretty extreme "4 WHEELING" but most often, of course, my car serves as suburban runabouts with little exposure to the wild, though they do convey the image. How can he bash it for getting 15mpg isnt that what most suvs get?

Xterra is a basic sort of truck, compared with today’s breed of fancy crossovers and high-tech luxury SUVs. Body-on-frame construction, solid rear axle, rear leaf springs, basically a full-body variation of a Nissan pickup truck.

Word??? you guys, stop hating. this guy's good. its a basic sort of "truck" that is basically a full-body variation of a, well... "truck".

haha

that guy sucks

"Ford Explorer were just coming into vogue as go-anywhere, do anything wagons for both families and rugged individuals." I'm sorry but I don't see the Ford Explorer as a offroad vehicle, that is where I stopped reading.

"It’s kind of a throwback........Xterra is reputedly geared toward adventurous young drivers and their mates ......though I would have appreciated a manual-shift feature.

A throwback? Adventurous young drivers and their mates(does that mean friends or wives?), Is a manual tranny really a feature?

Why not? I had a 94 Ford Ranger that I wheeled for years. The Explorer is to a Ranger what an Xterra is to a Frontier. They share the same frame and drivetrain, just a different body. Sure it wasn't actively marketed by an expensive ad campaign informing us "Hey this is for young cool dudes to take off road!!" like the Xterra has been, but it can be done.

Just sayin...

I've seen worse reviews. I wonder if people actually base their purchasing decisions on articles like these. If it's true, than I would be worried. We can shrug it off as wish-washy and such but a geo-driver might get himself into something he didn't want to.

People do. Most of what I think happens is that we start to hear about different vehicles, but we're not ready to buy anything. The adverts and reviews shape the opinions of what we want to buy. Personally, I think much of this has to do with the vehicle tying into our lifestyles or what we want them to be. That give us a preconceived notion of the vehicle we want. We end up purchasing that rather than what would actually be best for our situation.

This isn't for everyone, but I think it's a pretty decent description of what happens.

+1. When I want to drive a car (or need 34 mpg), I take my wife's Camry.
