What do we Drive?

So my girlfriend tells me that I'm not allowed to call my Xterra a truck for a number of reasons. I usually refer to it as my car in casual conversation, but clearly this isn't a a Honda civic. Bottom line: I need a one-word descriptor for this vehicle that isn't car or truck. SUV is accurate but doesn't roll off the tongue.

I had the same problem with my blazer. Not a truck, but not a car. Or am I just lazy?

I call it my X, my truck, or my rig.

Rig will work eventually but I'm still too close to stock to think of it as a rig. After full skids and Tswap it'll be a rig

Call it whatever you want to call it, call it a damn space ship if you want. Don't let your GF dictate what you call it.

I've always called it a truck though

I have the same problem.

It's not really a "truck" even though it is on a truck-based frame.
"My SUV" is stupid.
I've been called out by friends for saying "my truck" before so clearly that doesn't work.
"Rig" is too pretentious IMHO.
My girlfriend calls it a "sedan" to try to offend me.

Usually I say "my car" to people not in the know, and "the Xterra" to people who are familiar.
When I say "let's take my car" and then they see the Xterra for the first time they always pleasantly surprised which is a nice touch of using the word "car".

Xterra. 'SUV' is clunky (and inaccurate, given what passes for an SUV these days), I agree 'rig' sounds a bit pretentious, and 'car' doesn't sound right either. Sometimes I'll call it a truck since honestly that seems like the closest descriptor. It feels like a truck, after all. Just not a pickup truck. Why does it have to have a bed to be a truck?

Before I had my x I would refer to them as trucks- I usually just say car now.

I call it my truck. It's on a truck frame and is basically a truck with a fully covered bed. It's a frontier with a back cover. I'd argue if car and truck were the options, it's closer to truck than car.

My 3 year old nephew says "Monster Truck" whenever he sees it. Never says "monster car" so out of the pure innocence of the mouths of babes.
