HA! Yeah, the 1st gens. Try finding a good usable 2nd gen with under 150k miles for less than 6-8k. If you have that much to spend on a "weekend" vehicle. You're doing better than I am. But hey, the article has a good point, the X is bad A$$.

Lets face it - 99.9% of the people who own these vehicles never go off road. Wranglers, Land Rovers, Land Cruisers..... There all status.

Frankly new and gently used vehicle pricing has gone crazy in general, IMHO.

Agreed, I'm interested to see what will happen with the value (or lack there of) of my Pro-4x.

Every commercial and print ad had the thing ripping over rocks, kicking up dirt and rescuing mountain bikers/extreme kayakers who were undoubtedly listening to Limp Bizkit which, yeah, got popular the same year the Xterra was released.
It was Lenny Kravitz "Fly Away", not Limp Bizkit! :P

At least for the 2nd gens...

I got my 05 off road w/ 139k for 6k back in Dec. I guess I didn't do too badly.

05 Nissan Xterra Off Road OME w/ Dakar Leafs
14 BMW M5 Competition Pack DCT (perfect as-is, for now)
05 Yamaha FJR 1300 Super-Sport Tourer (Penske + AK-20)

So far, this X has held its value well and being a manual helps, I think...don't see many on say Autotrader.

You in LBC? Pretty close...ever go offroad? Gettin some tires soon and after installing my CB ready to hit some trails finally. Sucks may miss the snow though.
