Thanks

That is simply assuming though that by a couple 15 minute videos you mean two and that they totaled out around 280MB. That's 30 mins of recording. So, based on your results, a full hour of recording should be roughly 560MB. 32,000/560=57.1 again, that would basically be a guesstimate, but the point is, you have waaaaaaay more storage than 5 hours of recording.
Something doesn't make sense. 280mb for 30 mins of 1080p @ 30fps is way too low. The camera is rated for 12 to 15 mbps (mixed data - not sure which is right). That is 1.5 to 1.875 MBps = 90 to 112 MB/min. That gives ~6 to 4.75 hrs of run time for a 32 GB card

Ya, my numbers were solely based off what the OP was stating his file sizes were. I agree that something doesn't make sense. Just trying to figure out where that is. Based of what you are adding it makes more sense. Not sure what the deal is with the 280MB file sizes.

agreed. Maybe he meant 1.5 min videos.

The camera looks good for the price - I'll probably order one

Ya, they make another one that is more low profile as well. If you search "dash cam" on amazon this is about mid way down the first page. Right below it they have another one that seems to be a bit more low profile, but slightly more expensive. Both seem pretty decent and worthwhile at the price.

I am really interested in getting one of these. However, in my limited time spent researching, it looks like there are some variations in models

From what I've seen they have

G1W

G1WH

G1W-C

G1W-B

G1WH-CB

G1WH-X

I think the decoder ring reveals the following
G1W is the original - 120° viewing angle, class 4 or 6 cards
G1WH is the update to the original - 140° viewing angle will take class 10 cards
G1WH-B adds a black bezel to the original
G1W-C deletes the battery for higher heat tolerances. Capacitor model
G1W-CB is the same as the C but with a black bezel
G1WH-X gets you a 170° viewing angle

*I think

Lots of variations in pricing +/- $40 depending on the model, vendor, prime - coming from China direct etc.

More research!

I'm very impressed with this little camera from what I've seen. Might have to pick a couple up for the front and back. It will be nice to have back up in case of an accident and maybe I'll catch an alien flying across the sky or something!

It has a USB port. Will this also run the power as well, maybe from a stereo head. Will the HDMI also work in a Stereo Head as well. I have been thinking about something like this for awhile. I would probably by-pass the 12v lighter and add a switch to a power supply so that I can turn it off/on. I just may buy one to see how it works, not that expensive is it. I had really wanted to get something like the gopro that was waterproof and I could control through a stereo head as well and save the video too. This might fit the bill.

Killswitch, you're right, I converted it wrong, but I've noticed that there's something that's regulating the detail of recording, size wise.

After more experience recording with the camera and looking at footage from this weekend, I'm at about 280 MBs for 3 mins of footage from Rausch. Which doesn't make sense to me, as last week the file size was basically the same for about a 15 minute clip? Maybe the level of detail is scaled back after a certain period of time? Or maybe the sound/contrasting landscape has something to do with it? I didn't change any of the settings. Not sure, regardless -

Assume 3 minutes equals 250 MBs (for simplicity sake)

250 MBs x 4 = 1 GB = 12 minutes

1 GB = 12 minutes, so 12 minutes x 32 (32 GB is total storage) = 384 minutes/60 = 6.5 hours total.

I have the G1W-C model.

I just uploaded another video with more light/color to show off its capabilities. Still doesn't compare to watching the actual footage on your computer or TV at home, Ill see if I can create a vimeo account this weekend. Here's the vid-

Stabilization is kind of impressive given the amount I was bouncing around. i'll take some footage this weekend at night to see how it does.

I got the BlackBox unit that D'Rock linked in this review last Friday, the 1080 30fps setting consistently uses ~459MB for a 5 minute clip. Which by my calculations (which could be wrong) comes out to 5.8 hours.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.
