Any Ideas how to Tidy-up Ugly Spots under Front Mud Guards?

After 3 years I finally decided it was time to lose the mud guards and factory running boards on my X. I took the running boards off first and said "looks nice and lean". Took the rear mud guards off next and said "that looks right". Last I took the front mud guards off and said "that looks like crap. The paint has a perfect outline of the mud guard scratched into it (my X is black and under the paint is an almost white primer) and the plastic fender liner is all cracked where the mud guard used to go over.

Anyone come up with something to tidy this up? I've thought about rhino lining the area where the paint is ruined and tapering down to the rocker then all the way to the back or making a "mini" edge guard to put in place of the full size guard but I have no idea how to make that.

I'm interested in any suggestions or things you guys have done. For now I'm thinking about just putting the front mud guards back on to cover the ugly. In reality I should just make sure there's enough mud on my X so it covers the nasty spots but I like to keep the old girl looking sharp.

I have the same issue, mine had fenders replaced and they painted it with the flaps on. I am going to lineX the fenders and the rockers. looks great on my truck so it should look great on the X.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I've been crazy busy and the ugly spots went down in the list of priorities. I'll post a few pics tomorrow of the paint damage in the front. The rear is not too bad, it just has a faint outline of where the flap was cause the exposed plastic faded a bit but the front is ugly. I was thinking if I could just make the scratches black they wouldn't be noticeable. I seem to recall a wax with color in it. I wonder if that would work?

In any case I love the look without the huge mud guards but it still seems like there should be some kind of guard there, especially in the front. My brother does a lot of fabricating and I'm going to ask him if he could make something. He's already going to help me make some front d-ring mounts from 1/2 inch angle steel so I'll just add another request. I'll need to get him more beer, i mean, pay him more though.
